It’s a new school year for the kiddos so it means a new blog post for JSP. I have been busier than ever this summer between taking care of the home, kids and trying to run this business. In past years I would have pushed myself to stay up past midnight blogging each and every session but I’ve learned that it really doesn’t matter. It doesn’t bring me more clients. It doesn’t make me happier and most of the time people don’t leave a comment anyway stating that they liked what they saw/read or that they were here. So, this blog will always take the back burner when more important things are around….. like getting client galleries out in time, getting CDs in the mail and most importantly having time with my family!
But I do really want to keep it somewhat alive here so I thought I’d start back with January until now because these precious little new lives have consumed me (in a very good way). Although I don’t consider myself a “newborn” photographer as much as I do a “family” photographer, you’d never know it based upon the amount of newborns that have graced the presence of my camera. After all, they are the stepping stones of my business and the start to a new family.
Born first was baby Ellery whom I’ve grown to know the most. Why? Because her lovely and kind parents commissioned me to photograph her on a monthly basis. Yes, I said “monthly”. She’s become really special to me because I get to spend so much time with her and watch her progress over every milestone thus far. If you think about it, what is the best gift you could give yourself or your child that may seem like a splurge? It certainly wouldn’t be designer crib bedding, custom drapes or an expensive toy (that gets played with only a few hours of a lifetime). No, this family decided to splurge on the memories of life. I think that’s so incredible. But what’s more incredible are the people I get to see each month. Ellery is not only one of the sweetest babies I’ve worked with but her parents could NOT have been a better fit for me. They are so kind and gracious always. Even Grandma has joined in with our sessions! Talk about making memories! What’s fun is that we always put our heads together at the last minute and come up with some special idea for a photo. After Ellery’s first birthday, I plan to blog about her first year of life. I will show you all those ideas then! For now, here are just a few from her newborn session. She is adorning here the very same bonnet her mother wore coming home from the hospital (sweeeeet)! Grandma is a big knitter so we found it fitting to tuck her in with some yarn!
Next up is sweet baby Grace whom I’m about to go photograph again this weekend for her 8 month session. I tell ya, I’m really behind. Anyhow, Grace is just a doll and very much loved by her family…. especially big brother Sam (whom I’ve photographed 14 times already). She has the sweetest cheeks and thighs as you will see. Then here she is again at her 4 month session. It’s amazing how much they change in such a short amount of time. Look at her smile. It could seriously cure anyone’s bad day.
But this one takes the cake! Mom blew up a photograph of her son Sam at this very age with this same shot (minus the leg warmers). I can’t wait to see if she framed these shots side by side. They just crack me up. Delish!
There were several other babies photographed in the first quarter, but I only wanted to show a few due to lack of time. One however that I plan to see every few months is Erya. She was such a great model at her session. She smiled and rested well in the arms of her family…. even some from China who came to visit her while I was there.
